Their commanding performances reaffirmed Kenya’s long-standing reputation as a powerhouse in long-distance running.

Kipngeno was untouchable in the men’s race, clocking an impressive 1:01:43 to take the title. He crossed the finish line well ahead of fellow Kenyan Brian Kipchumba, who came in second in 1:05:14. France’s Tanguy Benkritly finished third in 1:05:46.

In the women’s category, it was a clean sweep for Kenya. Lucy Ndambuki led the charge with a winning time of 1:08:57, followed by Winnie Jeptarus (1:09:51) and Sharon Jepchirchir (1:10:23) to complete an all-Kenyan podium.

The half marathon was part of the larger 2025 Generali Genève Marathon weekend, held on May 10–11 in Geneva, Switzerland. Recognised as one of Europe’s fastest and most scenic races, the event draws thousands of participants from over 138 countries each year. It features various race formats for elite runners, amateurs, and families alike.

The half marathon route began in the commune of Cologny and wound its way through 11 other municipalities, including Chêne-Bourg, Thônex, and Jussy, before concluding at the iconic Mont-Blanc Bridge. The course offered participants a breathtaking blend of Geneva’s urban charm and natural beauty, capped off by views of the city’s famed Jet d’Eau fountain.

Kenya’s double triumph in Geneva adds another chapter to its storied history in distance running. Both Kipngeno and Ndambuki have now positioned themselves as strong contenders in upcoming international competitions, their Genève victories serving as powerful statements of intent.
